Correlative Tables
![]() |
They are tools for linking classifications by establishing a relationship between categories of two or more thereof, which may be of the same or different nature. They enable converting compiled data from a classification in terms of another, making their structures and contents equivalent. In order to provide efficient, timely and accurate information systems that enable the comparison of statistics at a national, regional and international level, DANE, develops correspondence tables that link different types of classifications for performing various analyzes and that are aimed at the generation of indices. |

The National Administrative Department of Statistics - DANE - within its functions relating to the production and dissemination of basic official information, has the ones set in Decree 262 of 2004, Article 2.°, number 3 paragraph d, which reads: "To formalize , adopt and adapt the nomenclatures and classifications used in the country for the production and use of basic official information and advise on the implementation and use thereof". Similarly, numbers 4, 6 and 11 of Article 17, respectively indicate: "To prepare the projects of formalization, adoption and adaptation of nomenclatures and classifications used in the country for the production of basic official information and promote the use thereof";"To promote the adaptation of classifications, nomenclatures, economic and social correlatives that are under the responsibility of the Department"; " To adopt, update and develop economic and social classifications according to international standards and developments and encourage their use and dissemination."
Based on these functions, DANE considered essential to have a Classification of Occupations that considers the dynamics of the labor market, enables to make plans or work programs and fix strategies aimed at the country's economic growth within a suitable statistical framework for international comparison.
To achieve this goal, it was necessary to conduct a comprehensive study, which rigorously, in statistical terms, complies with internationally established parameters. The product of the previous work is the International Standard Classification of Occupations adapted for Colombia - CIUO88 A.C, which presents a pyramidal hierarchical structure composed of 4 levels of aggregation, thus: 10 one-digit major groups, 34 two-digit main subgroups, 117 three-digit subgroups and 401 four-digit primary groups.
