The purpose of characterizations is to analyze in a descriptive manner, particular attributes associated with the production, organization, needs and uses of statistical information on the themes established in the thematic classification defined by DANE.

Characterizations describe the objectives, the conceptual and methodological framework, the description of the theme, the reference framework, the responsible entities, the regulation underpinning the production and description of statistical operations under analysis as well as the requirements of statistical information.
