| | - A brief history
In October 1951, through Decree 2240, the National Statistical Office is separated from the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic, thus creating the National Statistics Directorate as an office reporting directly to the Presidency of the Republic. In October 1953, under the government of General Gustavo Rojas Pinilla, the National Administrative Department of Statistics -DANE- is created through Decree 2666. It was later reorganized in 1968 (Decree 3167), during the administration of President Carlos Lleras Restrepo; and in December 1992, during the government of César Gaviria Trujillo, it was restructured in conformity with Decree 2118. Through Decree No.1174 of 29 June 1999, under the government of Andrés Pastrana, the DANE was attached to the Agustín Codazzi Geographic Institute. Through Decree 1151 of 19 June 2000, a new organizational structure was adopted and adjustments and modifications were later made to the staff organization through Decree 1187 of 28 June 2000, during the administration of Andrés Pastrana Arango. Decree 263 of 28 January 2004 further modified the staff organization of the National Administrative Department of Statistics and ordered other modifications. Decree 262 of 28 January 2004 modified the structure of the National Administrative Department of Statistics and established other provisions.
